Emberward Endless Mode: how to climb the leaderboard
Updated September 23, 2026 — Emberward 1.0
Endless Mode is Emberward's score-attack mode: 80+ stages, special event maps and public leaderboards, all on one survival ruleset. Where Adventure hands you authored pacing and bosses, Endless asks your maze to keep scaling until it can't. This guide covers how the mode differs and how to build for it.
What Endless Mode contains
- 80+ stages — beyond Adventure's world structure; difficulty compounds rather than resetting per world.
- Special event maps — rotated/rotating map rules that break standard maze templates. Expect modifiers drawn from Adventure's gimmick pool (corruption, wind, traps, anomaly rules).
- Leaderboards — online ranking via Steam leaderboards. Your score is a function of stages survived and how cleanly you survived them.
How Endless differs from Adventure
| Adventure | Endless | |
|---|---|---|
| Goal | Clear stages & bosses, farm unlocks | Survive as deep as possible; rank |
| Difficulty curve | Authored per world, resets in feel between worlds | Continuous scaling — waves outgrow static defense |
| Maze mindset | Solve the stage's gimmick | Build a core that survives any gimmick |
| Character matters | Any — unlocks are the point | Your strongest unlocked kit (Chrono's double Overcharge, Belloc's no-leak scaling, Tana's permanent buffs) |
| Talents | Helpful | Practically required — 2175 exp tree exists for a reason |
Endless build strategy
1. Stack force multipliers, not raw tower count
Past stage ~30, enemies outpace unbuffed towers. Prioritize:
- Scrap Tank as your carry — every fed tower permanently buffs it; Electric feeds (+14% fire rate) and Fire feeds (+10 damage) are the premium diets.
- Chill uptime — Frost plus Permafrost Gem/ICE Storm keeps whole lanes at −25% while your damage scales.
- Elemental Blueprint's +10% — five cheap 1×1s covering Fire/Ice/Electric/Poison/Arcane, permanently online.
- Giant Dice economy — reroll profits at 16+ fund late-stage upgrades other runs can't afford.
2. Build one proven core, adapt edges
Event maps change terrain, but your core (spoke box around a 3×3 carry, Chill at every junction, drones overhead) should survive rule swaps. Don't redesign the maze per map — redesign the perimeter.
3. Respect min-range towers in crowded boards
As mazes densify late, Bomb/Starfall/Scrap Tank minimum ranges get accidentally violated by your own wall growth. When you Mega-Rune a choke piece, re-check that your 3×3s still have their firing gap.
4. Pick characters for endurance
| Character | Why they thrive in Endless |
|---|---|
| Chrono Traveler | Double Overcharge per round + Chrono Bubble (−90% speed zones) = two emergency buttons per wave, forever. |
| Belloc | Armor smooths chip damage; Royal Barrier's permanent +50% on a carry tower never expires. |
| Tana | Permanent tower buffs via Enchanter — every buff card played becomes a forever investment. |
| Silas | Interest income (up to 150/round) compounds exactly when upgrades get expensive. |
| Tiny | Every card pre-runned — rune value accrues over 80+ stages. |
5. Frost Flame consideration
The Frost Flame's growing freeze aura is strong survival tech for Endless if you unlock it (clear Frost Ruins Normal). Its block-freezing caveat means your maze must tolerate walls locking down — keep redundancy in pathing so a frozen section doesn't strand your DPS.
