Emberward tier list: best towers ranked for 1.0

Launch tier list β€” September 23, 2026 (Emberward 1.0, post September 17 patch)

A ranked Emberward tier list for the 1.0 launch, covering all 36 towers. This ranking weighs what each tower's kit actually does β€” coverage, economy, element effects and relic synergies β€” against its gold cost and maze footprint. The meta is four days old, so treat this as a reasoned starting point rather than gospel; we'll re-rank after the first balance patches.

How to read this list: tiers assume a standard Adventure run with a mixed tower pool. A tower's tier can jump a full bracket with the right relic (the Scrap Master's set rescues Scrap Tower, for example). Costs and behaviors come from the full towers list.

S tier β€” run-defining towers

TowerSizeWhy it's S
S Giant Dice Tower2Γ—2The d20 is both DPS and an economy engine. Rerolls go free at 16 and pay you from 17–19, so a high roll snowballs gold while crit-20s delete waves. Red upgrade costs only 25 β€” the cheapest 2Γ—2 in the game β€” which makes it an almost default pick.
S Poison Tower1Γ—3Sprinkles poison over the path instead of single-targeting. Poison stacks on every tick of accumulated damage, so the longer your maze (the whole point of the game), the more it multiplies. Best answered with maze length, not fire rate.
S Drone Tower1Γ—1Drones track enemies across the entire map β€” the only tower completely indifferent to your maze geometry. Place it badly and it still hits everything. With Beacon of the Sapling Queen it gains +50% detection and up to +50% attack speed.
S Scrap Tank Tower3Γ—3Feed it towers and it grows: Electric gives +14% fire rate, Fire +10 damage, Ice +1.5 range β€” and the element follows your feeding choice. One tower becomes a scaling carry. Just respect its minimum range.
S Fireball Tower2Γ—2Expensive (85 red) but Fire AoE with a 5% burn proc per hit is the cleanest answer to clumped waves, and Burn ticks for 1% of max HP per second on non-bosses. Pairs with Wildfire Sigil chains.

A tier β€” core picks you're happy to draft

TowerSizeReasoning
A Sniper Tower2Γ—2Fire element at extreme range β€” the reliable boss answer. Cheap blue path (60).
A Lava Tower2Γ—2Fire area denial over the path; burn synergies everywhere.
A Lightning Ball Tower1Γ—2Electric charge economy in a slim 1Γ—2 package; blue upgrade (40) is cheaper than red.
A Thunder Tower3Γ—3Big electric insurance policy for late waves; Charge stuns buy your maze time.
A Frost Tower1Γ—1Chill is a 25% slow on demand β€” the single most universally useful status effect. One Frost in every corner of the maze pays for itself.
A Flamethrower Tower1Γ—1Cheap blue upgrade (20) into Fire burn coverage; efficient 1Γ—1 DPS.
A Laser Tower1Γ—1Consistent Electric DPS that stacks Charge; low blue cost (20).
A Decimate Tower3Γ—3+Poison at maximum scale. If your maze is long, this ends waves almost by itself.
A Golden Statue2Γ—2Zero damage, but 2Γ—2 floor space is the real cost β€” still, economy towers win roguelites. Rate depends on how fast your run is snowballing; default A for Adventure, B if you're struggling to hold waves.
A Missile Tower2Γ—2The element-picker: red for Fire, blue for Ice. Draft it when you're missing an element for Elemental Blueprint's +10% all-tower bonus.

B tier β€” solid fillers

TowerSizeReasoning
B Basic Tower1Γ—1Cheapest reliable Normal damage (15/15). Early-game spackle, falls off when elite waves arrive.
B Cannon Tower1Γ—1Slightly pricier Basic with the same job.
B Dart Tower1Γ—1Cheapest poison application (15/15) β€” better than its tier suggests if you already run poison payoff relics like Resonant Poison.
B Snowball Tower2Γ—2Ice CC is good; Frost does a similar job in half the space.
B Fan Tower2Γ—2Cheap (30 red); blue adds Chill. Fine bridge tower.
B Chomp Tower2Γ—2Solid once blue-converted to Poison, but expensive (70) for what Poison Tower does in 1Γ—3.
B Boulder Tower2Γ—2Arcane after blue upgrade; Arcane's free crits vs 80%+ HP targets make it a good wave-opener, not a wave-ender.
B Arcane Missile / Axe / Magic Arrow1Γ—1The Arcane 1Γ—1 club: strong opening damage on fresh targets, needs help to finish kills.
B Hammer / Lasso / Landmine2Γ—2Hybrid 2Γ—2s whose elements flip with upgrades β€” draft for Elemental Blueprint coverage.
B Earthquake Tower3Γ—3Wide Normal (or Fire) damage; big footprint for unexceptional numbers.
B Starfall Tower3Γ—3Blue upgrade randomizes element β€” fun, inconsistent. Minimum range hurts.
B Bomb Tower3×3+Huge AoE but the minimum range on a 3×3+ is a real maze constraint. Fire→Poison flexibility keeps it out of C.
B Dice Tower1Γ—1Stock dice roll badly more often than not; with Remote Dice (auto-reroll 1s) or Elemental Dice it climbs to A.
B Icicle Tower1Γ—1Duplicate-ish Frost role β€” second Ice source for big maps, first pick loses to Frost.
B Lightning Tower1Γ—1Good Electric burst, but 45-blue is steep for a 1Γ—1 when Laser exists at 20.

C tier β€” situational only

TowerSizeReasoning
C Scrap Tower1Γ—1Self-destructs when ammo runs out (30 shots). Without the Scrap Master relic line it's a delay tactic, not a tower. With Note/Wrench/Boots it becomes a legitimate burn-on-death strategy β€” hence U situational rather than hopeless.
C Drill Tower1Γ—1No damage at all. It's a boost-tile generator (blue: speed/range/damage tile). Take it when your maze has a spare pocket and you're building around boost tiles β€” never as DPS.

U Utility rating β€” Drill and relic-dependent Scrap sit outside the normal DPS ranking; they're tools, not attackers.
